We had a great time at the 2009 Echo Conference this year. Learned some very insightful stuff and had invigorating conversations.

ECHO encompasses all things media – visual, web, music, technology – and hopes to resound the truth of Christ through the power of media and technology.

Here are a few of my key take aways:

Phil Vischer (Creator of VeggieTales)
• “All I knew is that I couldn’t do hair, arms, legs or eyes. So I chose vegetables to tell the story.”
• If you don’t know what God wants you to do, then wait on him to tell you
• If God gives you a dream and the dream fails, God may want to see what is more important to you; the dream, or Him. (II Kings 4)

Phil Cooke (Cooke Pictures)
• “Failure is often the key to success.”
• “Google is reputation management.”

Branding (your story) – 4 Big Questions:
1. What’s the point?
2. What makes you, you?
3. What are your skills and talents?
4. What makes you different?

Branding Principles:
1. Visability is as important as ability
2. You can’t brand a lie
3. Being different is everything
4. Stop thinking mass, start thinking niche
5. Understand the power of a name
6. Speak the language of design
7. Lose the lingo (pay attention Christians)
8. Culture is more important than vision
9. Find the overarching theme for your life (what is the question I was put here to answer?)
10. What drives you nuts? Your misery is your ministry
