I’m so annoyed with social media right now.
My Facebook and Twitter feeds are full of platitudes, cliches, political opinions, health tips, and religious banter.
I get tons of advice about being successful in business from people posting stuff on Facebook ALL DAY instead of actually working.
There is so much noise and no way to filter it.
It’s. Driving. Me. Nuts.
We’ve given everyone a megaphone to run around with all day. “Hey look! Here’s an interesting quote! Share!” “Oh here’s an article that bolsters my political agenda! I should share that! And then I should share it again later in case someone missed it!” “Here’s a blog post about being a successful schmuck! I should definitely share that. And tweet about it! (Because Twitter is where all the self-employed hipsters hang out, right?)”
We live in a bite size culture where it’s all too easy to sound deep and intellectual without actually creating any new thought.
Instead of regurgitating someone else’s work, try to create something original. An interesting photo. A thought-provoking question. At least add some commentary to that quote you’re about to post. What do you agree or disagree with? Give the world something of value.
